PGL has reduced its 2028 Counter-Strike 2 calendar from eight events to six while retaining a combined investment of $11 million for the year. The first event is scheduled to start on 14 January, and the final event will end on 16 October.

The revised calendar removes two slots from PGL’s earlier plan: 16–28 August and 1–13 November. The organiser has not named hosts or locations for the six remaining events.

Two events removed

Four of the events will take place in the first half of 2028, with the final two scheduled for late summer and autumn. Each event is expected to run for about 11 to 13 days. All dates retained from the original eight-event plan remain unchanged.

The removed August slot overlapped with the dates usually used by the CS Asia Championships. Dropping it leaves the revised PGL calendar without that overlap. PGL has also removed the November event, bringing its 2028 total down by two.

How the investment is divided

The six events are part of PGL’s Tier 1 programme for Counter-Strike 2. PGL has pledged at least $22 million across 2027 and 2028, equivalent to at least $11 million per year.

Of the yearly allocation, $6 million goes to teams and players based on results. That comprises $3 million in player prize money and $3 million for clubs. Each event has a $1 million prize pool.

A further $2.2 million is set aside as a VRS invite bonus for teams that accept their invitations, while $2.8 million is allocated as a viewership incentive. The invite bonus is $400,000 at four events per year and $300,000 at two events per year. It is paid to the top five VRS teams that accept their invites.

What happens next

The reduction changes the number of opportunities on PGL’s 2028 calendar but not its stated yearly investment. Teams and fans now have six event slots to plan around, from the January opener through to the October finish.

PGL has confirmed the revised dates, but further event details remain to be shared. Hosts and locations have yet to be announced.
