The Oklahoma City Thunder will retire Russell Westbrook’s No. 0 on 7 February 2027, raising it to the rafters at Paycom Center when they host the New York Knicks. The team announced the ceremony on Monday.

Westbrook retired this offseason after earning nine All-Star selections, nine All-NBA selections and the 2016-17 MVP award. All but one of his All-Star and All-NBA seasons came with the Thunder.

A lasting mark in Oklahoma City

Across 821 appearances for Oklahoma City, Westbrook averaged 23.0 points, 8.4 assists, 7.0 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game. His No. 0 will be raised to the rafters at Paycom Center.

“Many players make an impact but only great players leave a legacy. Russell Westbrook’s legacy was built both on the court and in the community,” Thunder general manager Sam Presti said in a statement. “His mindset was relentless, his commitment deep. For all those reasons, Oklahomans consider him one of their own and his number will be raised to the rafters, in Oklahoma City forever.”

The Thunder traded Westbrook to the Houston Rockets before the 2019-20 season. He later played in Washington, for both the Lakers and Clippers in Los Angeles, and in Denver and Sacramento before retiring. He did not spend two full seasons with any of those teams.

Roster questions after injuries

The announcement follows questions about whether Westbrook might return to the Thunder as a player after injuries affected their roster. Jalen Williams suffered a season-ending injury, while Cason Wallace underwent shoulder surgery.

Asked last week about the possibility of a roster move, Presti said he had not considered one at that point. “I haven’t thought about anything relative to the roster spot,” he said, adding that his focus was on supporting the players and helping the group meet the challenge ahead.

Ceremony set for February

Westbrook will return to Paycom Center for the jersey ceremony against the Knicks. It will give the Thunder an opportunity to honour his achievements with the team and his contribution to the Oklahoma City community.

The ceremony is set for 7 February 2027, with No. 0 to join the numbers displayed in the arena’s rafters.
